New semis in Ilford are the first Passivhaus homes in Redbridge, east London
The four bedroom houses on Northbrook Road were certified in 2019 by the Passivhaus Institut in Germany, and have been built with a factory built insulated and part finished timber frame that was craned into position.
One of the two brothers who commissioned the houses stated:
"Our architect, Peter Ranken, proposed a unique design solution for our Passivhaus project which met all our expectations.
Since moving in, our Passivhaus experience has been extremely positive. The houses are well designed, well built and extremely well insulated, making them very comfortable to live in. The filtered ventilation system provides a healthy, dust free environment. The added bonus is that the houses are easy to keep clean and maintain. The triple glazing has proved a revelation as noise from busy traffic in the street is not noticeable, enabling us to enjoy a tranquil living environment. Energy consumption for heating is proving to be considerably lower than we have experienced in a conventionally built house.
We wondered whether the houses would meet the claims made for Passivehaus and we have been very impressed at how things have turned out."
