Hackney Passivhaus Project is shortlisted for 2016 UK Passivhaus Award

The Tooley & Foster Partnership’s in-house specialists Accredited Passivhaus Design were the Certified Passivhaus Designers for this two bedroom house in Hackney for which the architects were Tectonics.

On a heavily overshadowed site, it was a challenge to achieve Passivhaus Certification, but the combination of draught free solid timber panel construction, external insulation and high efficiency windows has delivered utility costs of around £300 per year plus standing charges. Ongoing temperature monitoring is showing that the house remains comfortable, even in cold or hot weather.
