Our Certified Passivhaus Designer is Architect Peter Ranken who has over 25 years’ experience of designing housing and care buildings and also holds an MSc in Environmental Design and Engineering from University College London. He is also a trained BREEAM assessor and Accredited Professional. He qualified as a Passivhaus Designer in 2012, and this accreditation was renewed in 2018.
His Passivhaus Projects include:
Foleshill Health Centre in Coventry, the first NHS Passivhaus building, completing in 2021.
The first Passivhaus dwellings in Redbridge, a pair of semi-detached houses in Ilford.
Passivhaus Designer for the Hackney Passivhaus, designed by architects Tectonics, which won the Urban Category at the UK Passivhaus Awards 2016.
He has also provided Passivhaus Designer advice for other Passivhaus projects within Tooley Foster including three buildings in Oxfordshire, a community centre in Chigwell and a 60 bed care home in Kent. Peter has worked with a number of other architects to make their own homes certified to the Passivhaus Classic standard.
He is an associate lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University, where he contributes Passivhaus thinking to modules on environmental building performance.
Peter was the project architect for New Cranes Court, a Carbon Neutral (Code Level 6) development of 28 houses and flats that was awarded ‘Sustainable Larger Housing Project of the Year’ at the Sustainable Housing Awards in 2012, and won the Award for 'Development' at the Sustain' Awards in 2012.
Accredited Passivhaus Design is supported by the experienced technical staff of Tooley Foster, an architectural practice with nearly 30 staff which has been established for over 125 years.
